What you missed on Dec.4th
On Dec.4th we had really cool Gingerbread Men for snack that Linda Prior from Trinity brought us. The words "Trinity Rocks" were written in red on them!!!
We did rock, didn't we?
We did massages as part of our warm-up.
We did Every Star Shall Sing a Carol in a lower key, so it's more comfortable.
Imagine is coming along really well!
We need to work on memorizing the words to both of those songs. That's something you can do during the week.
For fun, we sang Better Days by the Goo Goo Dolls, A Thousand Years by Christina Perri, and Jingle Bells and Jingle Bell Rock! We had jingle bells and other instruments to play along with the Christmas Carols. We danced to Midnight City by M83.

It's looking like Christmas
I'm so glad it snowed today. We've got to get going with our Christmas music.
Last Tuesday, we looked at Every Star Shall Sing a Carol.
You'll get the words to take home with you this coming Tuesday, and we'll learn 2 parts.
We're also singing Imagine, by John Lennon, a special song of peace.
We'll be offering these songs and maybe another-something traditional I think- to the December 16th Sunday service. This time, we will likely be needed throughout the service, but we'll get more details as arrangements are firmed up.
It would be cool if we could use some of our instruments with Imagine. Let's see who brings what on Tuesday. I'll see if we can transpose the chords for everyone : )

Jesus was a cool dude/ We will praise you
This is our Queen stomp. Stomp-stomp-clap! (like We are the Champions)
Here's the whole thing. Sing along to the whole thing in your head so that you get your part in right where it belongs.
Jesus was a cool dude
40 days without food
living his life by the Golden Rule
He's got love on his face
He's full of grace
We're sending his love all over the place
Singing We will, we will praise You
Here are the assigned parts for our stomp:
Please review your line!
Samantha: Jesus was a cool dude
Victoria: 40 days without food
Ethan: living his life by the Golden Rule
Sinavy: He's got love on his face
Sharmin: He's full of grace
Soraya: We're sending his love all over the place
Emma: Singing We will, we will praise You

Tuesday, October 30th
Today, we had too much fun! Some of us had costumes on and we had lots of treats, and lots of treats means lots of sugar, and lots of sugar means lots of energy!
We sang and danced and made a lot of noise, mostly beautiful musical noise.
Next week we want to go upstairs to rehearse. Don't let me forget!

- We did the good blood, bad blood warm-up again and also Maybe my mummy will go to Miami and maybe my mummy will not :)
- We clapped and swooped and liked it, so we'll do the swoop in True Colors when we get to the chorus.
- We worked on singing together like a team, or like a choir, with the same level of volume to make one big sound in Waiting Here For You. We stood closer together in a circle and listened to and watched each other so that we blended. It was cool.
- We did a Pumpkin Carving Rap Prayer! It was silly.
- We sang a beautiful song that both Emma and Sharmin requested: Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift. (I'm listening to it right now. Love it.)
- We sang and danced with Owl City's Good Time.

October 23
OOOOHHH We had fun!!!
Our warm up was the seasonally appropriate Bad blood; good blood.
We sang the We Will Praise You Queen stomp.
We did really well on True Colors and looked at changes in volume and smiling!
We sang along to the Beatles Let it Be. Pretty.
We had a snack (Bear paws and Berry punch mmmmmm) and then went up to the sanctuary!!!
It was so special! We rehearsed the stomp with Waiting Here for You, and it was powerful!
Ethan played his saxophone solo upstairs and it was really good! We snapped along :) It was the Adams Family theme song!
Back in our room, we sang and danced with Viva La Vida and One Thing in the dark!
Next week, we will sing in our costumes for Halloween!

TTC Newmarket October 16
I forgot to post what we did!
We did the coolest warm up, with the Queen Champions stomp.
We did a great job with True Colors.
We sometimes forget our parts in Waiting Here For You, but it's getting really beautiful. You started singing nice and strong.
Ethan brought maple cookies!!! Yum.
We sang Somebody That I Used to Know with just our own accompaniment on various instruments and it was kind of noisy, but cool.
We sang Born This Way with Heather giving the accompaniment. Great song!
We sang We Are Young, and Becky sat in and taught us some of the words in sign language!!! How cool is that?!
Samantha had a turn to do a solo and sang a whole song by herself.
Next week Ethan said he'd bring his saxophone.

2CELLOS - Smooth Criminal [Live Showcase, Tokyo]
This is the cello video that Emma and I were talking about last week. I love these guys. They look like they're having so much fun! Enjoy your instruments and play outside the box.
One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful (5 Piano Guys, 1 piano) - ThePi...
Another one of our songs!
These guys are great too! I love seeing the inside of the piano. It's weird and wonderful.
Somebody That I Used to Know - Walk off the Earth (Gotye - Cover)
This is the really cool one that Ethan has on his CD, I think. Aren't they awesome?!!!

Tuesday, October 9th
On Tuesday, October 9th, we did the following:
- warm-ups included bubble-bubble gum
- True Colors is getting really good. We've just got to do it again and again now, and memorize all the words. We've got the last part memorized.
- We sang Somebody That I Used to Know, as requested by Ethan. It was great! Ethan also brought a different version of it and we sang that too.
- We had mini Coffee Crisp bars that the church gave us and juice boxes as a snack. Yum!
- Waiting Here For You is almost done too! We've memorized the whole thing now, and have figured out how we're going to end it! Yay!
- For our fun songs, we sang Ready or Not, as requested by Emma, and Viva La Vida which we tried to do last week.
- Heather lead us in Someone Like You again. We love that song.
- Heather sang us the song that she wrote (beautiful) and inspired us to sing for each other too. So, next week we'll start giving a couple people the opportunity to sing a solo or duet, or play one on their instruments for us. Great idea Samantha!
We talked about when to perform at church and what to wear. I've sent an email to everyone with details.

Career counselling- huh?
On Facebook, one of my friends posted an interesting video of a guy lecturing about choosing a career. He said you should think about what you would like to do if money weren't an issue. If you didn't have to think about earning a living doing what you do, what would you want to do?
That's interesting. He was saying that if you have a passion for it, then the money will come somehow. You want to spend your days riding horses? Then do it well and become a teacher, or open your own riding school. You want to paint? Do it.
Something to start thinking about. What do you want to do? Not what do you want to be, or what job do you want, but what do you see yourself doing? How do you see yourself spending your days?

October 2nd
If you missed October 2nd, here's what you missed:
1. Warm-ups included hitting an ah with a hard beginning, 'ah, with some extra softness hah and just plain old ah. Something to think about when you're singing a vowel sound: which way do you want to start the sound?
2. We worked on the main melody in True Colors to get stronger on our parts. It's not easy to stick to your part, and easy to get pulled to the melody that the sopranos are singing. We did really well on the clapping part!
3. We planned to sing along to Viva la Vida, but the CD died. So, we sang along to One Thing by One Direction. Fun!
4. We had a snack (Koolaid and chocolate chip cookies) and listened to Heather and Renate sing Indescribable and started to sing along. It's pretty.
5. We worked on memorizing Waiting Here For You and worked on the allelujahs. They're sounding awesome.
6. We did a sing and play-along to Count on Me, with 2 guitars, ukulele, recorder, a triangle and shakers. It was really noisy and so much fun!
7. For one last sing-along we did Firework by Katy Perry.
Samantha gave me a bunch of songs to look at- some words and some words and music, and Ethan gave me a list of songs to consider doing! Thank you! Emma is going to email me ideas too.

TobyMac - Forgiveness [Lyrics] ft. Lecrae
Oooh. I like this song. When I went to a Gospel Choir Conference last year, I was in a class that did a hip-hop dance to a song by Lecrae (I know, try not to imagine me dancing hip-hop). It was really nice, and I like Tobymac too, so I thought this would probably be good-and it is, amazing.
Tues. Sept. 25
So, if you missed Teen Choir on Tuesday, September 25, here's what you missed:
1. Warm-ups included clapping and stomping
2. True Colors also included clapping. We learned the section from 49-57, but sang the whole song. We'll have to review the beginning parts next time for the new people.
3. We sang along to A Message by Cold Play. (requested by Soraya)
4. While we ate a snack (amazing Brazilian Coffee Cookies made by Ethan's dad, and selections of sweets on a tray which Trinity United Church donated to us-thank you!), Heather and Renate sang Ever Lifting and Indescribable as suggestions as an alternate song to perform because some people said they weren't crazy about Waiting Here For You. We also sang Waiting Here for You all together. It was decided that Waiting Here for You is actually pretty good, and we want to do Indescribable too!!!
5. For a sing and play along, we did What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction. Victoria accompanied us on the piano, Renate and Ethan jammed with a recorder and flute, and we also had a bit of percussion happening with shakers, tambourines and a triangle!
6. We sang Someone Like You again, requested by Ethan and Sinavy. And we all loved it.
7. We worked on the allelujahs for Waiting Here For You, adjusting them for the middle parts in the chorus.
8. For our finale, we sang along to Viva La Vida by Cold Play, and we didn't even have the words!

Teen Choir and the Avengers DVD on the same day!
The Avengers DVD comes out today, and we have Teen Choir! What an exciting day!
Superheros are cool, but Choristers are cooler and have more fun, and never need to SLAM! BAM! POW! or ZAP! anyone.
We overcome evil with our voices and beautiful music, and the powerful light that shines through our eyes (better than laser beams).

What would you like to sing?
Please come to choir next week with ideas of what you'd like to sing. And, anytime you have an idea for a song you can post it here, or on our Facebook Page, or in our Facebook Group, or you can send me an email: renatesdesk@rogers.com.
I've got lots of ideas and Victoria and Soraya have some too. Sometimes we don't agree on what song would be good to sing at Teen Choir. We don't always like the same songs.
I'd like to sing a variety of songs at Teen Choir because everyone's different. It would be a good idea for you to give me some ideas too. Think about the songs you like, and if they've got a good message and no four-letter words or other inappropriate content, we can sing them. If you have a CD, even better. Words too? Awesome!

Tuesday, Sept. 18: growing
We're growing! We enjoyed meeting and singing with our new members tonight. It sounds so good with a few more voices! And, there's lots of room for more!
Here's what you missed if you missed Teen Choir tonight:
1. Warm-ups included breathing exercises and vocal stretching.
2. We sang up to the end of page 6 in True Colors. We're going to look at 49 next week! There's clapping at 49.
3. By request, we sang an Adele song. Heather sings a wicked Someone Like You accompanying herself on the guitar, and we all sang along. It was awesome!!!
4. We had Oreo cookies again for a break snack.
5. We then sang Owl City's Firefly! Fun! You should have heard us. We were so strong on Firefly, without any accompaniment at all- a cappella.
6. We got some beautiful harmonies going with the allelujahs in Waiting Here for You and next week we're going to start making it our own.
7. We sang Count on Me and Good Time (even though some of us think it's too repetitive) again, and talked about how to jam with your instrument when you know the keys.
For next week, I'll have figured out how to transpose for alto sax and maybe clarinet. ( I think it's down 3 and up 2) We'll see if we can remember our instruments next time and also take them out of their cases-they work better that way ;)

Love Music? Come and sing with us!
When I was a teenager, this is how my brain looked.
Now that I'm older those old song lyrics are still there, for the most part, but it's harder to learn new lyrics. I guess all the junk that I worry about all day, like work and laundry take up too much space. Still, music is a huge part of every hour of my day.
If music is on your brain a lot, come and sing and play with us at TTC!

People are beautiful everywhere, and music can unite us.
People are beautiful everywhere and our response to music is beautiful, even when, or especially when it's not perfect. Watching this great variety of people from all around the world, so full of joy, having so much fun, I'm overwhelmed with emotion. Thank you, Matt Harding!

Pop Song Poll
There's a poll on this blog, over there on the right panel.
You can choose which pop song from the list you like best.
If you want, you can choose more than one.
I know I can almost never choose just one when asked which I like best of anything- favourite colour, flavour of ice cream, band, anything.
I like polls anyway. Something about being able to choose, I guess. Like at the Mandarin restaurant.

Follow the Olympics through a friend's eyes
Come to the Mall on Friday at 2pm to hear some members of the York Region Community Choir sing. We're doing O Canada and You Raise Me Up. I was thrilled to be asked to participate. The Olympics are soooo cool. You can watch the opening ceremony at the Mall on big screens starting at 4pm.
Hey, if you're into the Olympics, Sean McKinnon has an excellent blog about his experience as a tech guy for broadcasters. He blogged about a bunch of other Olympics too, including Vancouver and Beijing. He talks about things that he sees in the city and behind-the-scenes issues that you don't hear about in other places. He's a really great guy that goes to Trinity. Check out the blog here: http://lob2012.blogspot.ca/

Teen Choice Awards
http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2012/07/23/teen-choice-awards-2012-demi-lovato-style/
So, when you Google Teen Choice Awards, which happened last night, you get an article about Demi Lovato's dresses. "We think Lovato was gorgeous in all three looks, but want to hear what you think". -Not a word in the article from People Magazine about what a great job she did hosting the show or a comment about the awards she won. Is that all we really care about- clothes and hair?

Count On Me - Bruno Mars
If you ever find
yourself stuck in the middle of the sea,
I'll sail the world to find
you
If you ever find
yourself lost in the dark and you can't
see,
I'll be the light to guide you
Find out what we're
made of
When we are called
to help our friends in need
You can count on me
like 1 2 3
I'll be there
And I know when I
need it I can count on you like 4 3 2
And you'll be there
Cause that's what
friends are supposed to do, oh yeah
Wooooh, Wooooh
yeaahyeah
If you're tossin and
you're turnin and you just can't fall asleep,
I'll sing a song beside you
And if you ever for-get
how much you really mean to me,
Everyday I will remind you, oh
Find out what we're
made of
When we are called
to help our friends in need
You can count on me
like 1 2 3
I'll be there
And I know when I
need it I can count on you like 4 3 2
And you'll be there
Cause that's what
friends are supposed to do, oh yeah
Wooooh, Wooooh, yeah
yeah
You'll al-ways have
my shoul-der when you cry
I'll ne-ver let go,
ne-ver say good-bye
(You know you) can count on me like 1 2 3
I'll be there
And I know when I
need it I can count on you like 4 3 2
And you'll be there
Cause that's what
friends are supposed to do, oh yeah
Wooooh, wooooh You can count on me

What songs would you like to sing? There are some ideas for songs in a box on the right panel, and some songs are posted, but we can sing things that you suggest. Suggest a song. As long as the song has some meaning, a positive message for us, and doesn't have any "4-letter" words or other disrespectful lyrics, then it'll be fine.

Sister Act 2" Joyful, Joyful "
So inspiring. Can you sing and move? We'll see...
Logo
Hey, future TTC members!
We need our own logo: something simple that we can maybe print in black on a white t-shirt and on posters, forms, etc. It would be great if one of us could design it. Use TTC, or TTC Newmarket, or just Teen Choir. Be creative and have fun, but try to keep it simple so that we can replicate it easily with a black marker.
Send me ideas at renatesdesk@rogers.com.

We've got to sing and play music. We just have to.
Psalm 150
150 Praise the LORD!
Praise God in his Temple!
Praise him in heaven, his strong fortress!
2 Praise him for the great things he does!
Praise him for all his greatness!
3 Praise him with trumpets and horns!
Praise him with harps and lyres!
4 Praise him with tambourines and dancing!
Praise him with stringed instruments and flutes!
5 Praise him with loud cymbals!
Praise him with crashing cymbals!
6 Everything that breathes, praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD!
Chris Tomlin - Indescribable
Here's another song I really like. I love this video too, especially the picture of the lion. Whoa.
Waiting Here For You (radio version) by Christy Nockels
This is so pretty. Heather V and I sang Ever Lifting by Christy Nockels at church last Sunday. Check that one out too.

TTC Trinity Teen Choir starting soon
Get ready Trinity Teens! We're going to get together every Tuesday night to sing and make music. We'll prepare a couple of pieces to sing at church on a Sunday in October and a Sunday in December. We'll have plenty of time to sing just for fun, for ourselves too. We're going to sing some contemporary Christian music and some pop songs and maybe we'll make up some stuff of our own too. We're going to sing stuff that moves us, and we're going to move the other people at church too. TTC will move. (Teens can join starting in their 13th year, at age 12, and can invite friends from outside Trinity to join too. More friends; more fun.)
